Project Description

A leading healthcare and IT staffing agency in the United States, serving clients nationwide, faced growing challenges in managing recruitment operations efficiently. Their team handled high-volume hiring, diverse job roles, and rapid turnaround times — but their existing processes were manual, fragmented, and time-consuming.

Without a centralised system, the agency struggled with:

  • Tracking applicant progress

  • Managing job postings and candidate pipelines

  • Scheduling interviews

  • Ensuring compliance

  • Maintaining transparent communication across recruitment teams

They needed a scalable, automated solution that could streamline recruitment workflows, reduce time-to-hire, and offer real-time visibility across the hiring lifecycle.

Sixty One Steps designed and deployed a custom Applicant Tracking System (ATS) built entirely on AWS Serverless architecture, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and cost efficiency.

Solution & Implementation

Key Components Implemented:

  • AWS Lambda for running recruitment workflows without server management

  • Amazon DynamoDB as a fast, fully managed database for candidate and job records

  • Amazon S3 for secure document and resume storage

  • API Gateway & CloudWatch for performance monitoring and integration

  • Automated workflows for resume parsing, applicant tracking, interview scheduling, and notifications

  • Role-based access & permissions to support different recruiter and hiring manager needs

  • Compliance workflows designed to meet U.S. healthcare staffing standards

Implementation included full configuration, custom workflow design, and integration with existing systems. The transition was smooth, allowing teams to adopt the system quickly with minimal disruption.

Outcome

The custom-built AWS-powered ATS transformed the agency’s recruitment operations. Key results included:

  • 60% reduction in manual recruitment effort through process automation

  • Faster time-to-hire due to streamlined workflows and real-time candidate tracking

  • Improved recruiter productivity with automated scheduling, notifications, and resume parsing

  • Enhanced compliance management tailored for healthcare staffing requirements

  • Unified recruitment experience across teams, candidates, and hiring managers

  • Scalable infrastructure that grows with business demand without heavy maintenance

The agency continues to use this ATS under an ongoing support arrangement, benefiting from a secure, fully automated, and high-performing recruitment ecosystem.
